Today’s behavioral healthcare system provides essential support for individuals with serious mental illness. However, it is often criticized for being impersonal and system driven. Frequent staff changes, shifting treatments, and confusing layouts can weaken the human connection in care. In recent decades, it has also become clear that behavioral healthcare design lacks a meaningful connection to nature.

This project was delivered using a design–build approach to maintain a tightly integrated relationship between design and construction. This method ensured an efficient, streamlined process that minimized redundancies, improved coordination, and preserved design intent from concept through completion.
